Cleaning Guidance

Resin Floor Care

​

Whilst a resin flooring is very tough, you'll get more from your floor if you clean it regularly.

​

You won't need any special equipment (unless the area is particularly large) or use any expensive cleaning fluids; care in many ways is similar to looking after a vinyl floor.

​

All you need to do is regularly remove grit, soak the floor in a warm solution, give it a quick scrub, allow the detergent to soak and then wipe clean.

​

We've put some general notes together for you below...

General Tips

 

All floor surfaces can become slippery if grease or dirt is allowed to collect on surfaces. A resin floor finish is extremely tough, but will damage if grit or other contaminants are allowed to accumulate on surfaces.

 

Regularly cleaning a floor will help to maintain the   appearance and durability of the floor for longer.

 

Steam cleaning and/or hot pressure cleaning lances may be used with care to clean resin surfaces, however staff using the equipment must take care not to hold the cleaning head in a area for more than a few seconds, as heat transfer from the equipment will quickly soften the resin and may cause premature and rapid failure. Resin is a plastic and will melt under high heat.

 

Hot Water should be used when cleaning floor surfaces, however please ensure water does not exceed 60oC.

 

Routine maintenance should include;

  • sweeping or vacuuming off the floor to remove dust and debris.

  • If the floor is to be washed; dilute a neutral detergent, by 1:40 in clean water (or as directed by the cleaning fluid manufacturer

  • Avoid use of Acid based cleaners.

  • Liberally apply the water and detergent solution to the floor, using a slow-speed scrubbing machine and white soft-medium pad or a soft bristle brush.

  • Allow the detergent solution to remain on the floor for several minutes, which will help break down grease, then scrub the floor again.

 

The cleaning fluid, together with dirt then needs to be removed. This can be completed using a cloth, mop or a squeegee (which will help collect dirty water for easier disposal). Alternatively and with preference, use a wet vacuum.

A cold/ambient pressure washer may be used if required, but the pressure should not exceed 1400psi.

 

Pressure lances may help move deposits from the floor surfaces.

 

Although resin flooring is very durable and resists many chemicals, some cleaning agents may shorten their service life.

 

 

 

Smooth Surfaces

 

In common with other high-gloss finishes, a resin floor finish will scratch over time. Periodically, to improve the appearance, help keep surfaces cleaner for longer and regain the gloss surface, a resin floor can be sealed using a floor polish.

 

Use of a mop to clean a resin floor is not generally recommended and may prove to be insufficient. Occasional scrubbing using a brush may prove helpful in removing ingrained or persistent dirt.

 

After installing a gloss resin surface the resin floor  finish should be protected by the application of  1 or 2 coats of metallised acrylic emulsion polish, however allow the resin finish to fully cure for a  period of at least 5 days before soaking and sealing.

 

 

 

Textured Surfaces

 

It is important that all detergent residue is removed from the textured surface of the floor, by thorough rinsing. This is necessary because detergent can become slippery, if a build up is allowed to sit on the floor over a prolonged period. This may affect safety, or surfaces may become sticky which will cause surfaces to attract and hold more dirt.

 

Use of a scrubbing brush, or cleaning equipment fitted with bristle attachments will help remove dirt and grease from textured surfaces.
